In 2018 and 2019 I went through the toughest two year of my life when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The next two years involved a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, breast reconstruction and hormone treatment. Prior to diagnosis, I was exercising 3-4 times a week but with surgeries and chemotherapy treatment my energy levels didn’t allow this.

With two years of no exercise, toxic chemo, resting lots to try to survive the day, low mood and poor diet ( you eat when you can) I gained 13 kg and the weight was creeping up.

I felt bloated, I had joint pains, I felt lethargic and very unhappy with how I felt and looked. I was 73 kg ,the heaviest I’d ever been. I had just experienced a huge body image switch where both breasts were removed but, in 2019 both breasts were reconstructed and I felt a whole woman again. However, I still wasn’t happy with how I looked and felt.

I heard about LTLA from a friend who had had fantastic results the year before. I had a cruise booked for my 50th and to celebrate the end of breast cancer. I wanted to look and feel good for the cruise and contacted Jan who explained the program and became my Mentor. I was determined to feel sexy again for the cruise. Within 8 weeks of starting the program, I had lost 7 kg.

Having a mentor makes you accountable and I didn’t want to let Jan down sending her my weight daily. Once I became used to the new healthy way of eating it became easier as the weeks went on. I finally felt whole, empowered, strong, sexy and alive again.

I felt comfortable in a bikini and admittedly enjoyed the odd stare from the younger men on the cruise!!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the LTLA journey, being creative with meals, comparing notes on the Facebook page and seeing all the great stories and photos of other LTLA’ers!
